After giving the world a taste-test with their dance-earworm “Cake By The Ocean” and packaging the tune in their pop-funk EP SWAAY, DNCE finally issued November 18 as the official release date for their self-titled debut album.
The collective — consisting of former JoBro drummer Jack Lawless, guitarist JinJoo, and bassist Cole Whittle — with a fittingly Nutty announcement video that gives a brief overview of their time as a band since 2015. On Friday, the four-piece quartet joined On Air with Ryan Seacrest to further detail their first collection, which took one year for them to complete.
“The album itself, it kind of takes you through those rollercoaster emotions of relationships, love, hate, anger, and finally, I think just having a good time,” frontman Joe Jonas said. “DNCE is pure fun and I think that’s kind of the overall idea of the album.”
The band also revealed that the impetus behind their funky image was the experimental release “Cake By The Ocean,” a song they wrote to overcome writer’s block. “We just got in the studio and wrote this song,” Jonas said. “We said, ‘Let’s just can everything and just write out of a funny situation.”
DNCE will take their album on tour beginning January 17 at the House of Blues in San Diego. The will hit The Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles on January 18 before making their way to Dallas, Nashville, New Orleans, and other cities across the U.S. General tickets for the show go on sale on November 11.
In the meantime, their latest single “Body Moves” is available now.
